Víctor Daniel López Lorente
Víctor holds a PhD in Art History, a degree in Art History, and a Master’s in Advanced Studies in Spanish Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as a University Specialist qualification in Archival Science from UNED. He is an Archive Technician at the National Museum of Decorative Arts. He has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Art History at UNED and in the Department of Art History at the University of Valladolid, and a Temporary Lecturer in the Department of Art History at the University of Seville. He has held competitive research fellowships at the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Lázaro Galdiano Foundation, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and the Spanish Film Archive, among others. His research has focused on two main areas revolving around Gothic architecture in the Crown of Aragon: the study of architects’ training and the visual sources used for the transmission of knowledge, with a particular interest in instruments of graphic representation. Some aspects of his dissertation have served as a starting point for paths he has subsequently explored, such as the visual references available to patrons and craftsmen, and the way in which these became determining factors in artistic creation through a dynamic of copying and emulating models, in which values such as the prestige of patrons or society’s regard for certain creators are intertwined. His research has resulted in his book La transmisión del saber técnico de los arquitectos de la Corona de Aragón en el tardogótico, as well as numerous papers and presentations at national and international conferences, book chapters, and articles published in prestigious, peer‑reviewed journals and in publishing houses listed in quality rankings. Among these, the following stand out: “«La más suntuosa capilla de España». Tiempo, memoria e identidad, La Ergástula, 2023, pp. 147–168). He has recently opened a new line of research on the role played by women in architectural workshops. On this last topic he has presented two papers, at the XVI Jornadas Complutense de Arte Medieval at the Complutense University of Madrid and at the 7th International Symposium “Reflexiones sobre el gusto” at the University of Zaragoza, which are currently in press with Brepols Publishers and the Institución Fernando el Católico, respectively.
